Day 2: November 1 – Luke 2

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%202;&version=31

Interesting observations: I find it very neat that in Luke, it clearly states two important Jewish traditions (circumcision and Passover) and Law of Moses which reinforces the fact that Jesus is Jewish, but within the same Chapter, we are reminded that Jesus is here for all people.
2:10 "But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people."
2:32 "light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

When I read this passage in the past, I used to assume that Simeon was an old man who was basically living until he would see the messiah - kind of like a special gift/reward from God. Today, I tried to read it while imagining him to be middle aged and it elicited a stronger emotion from me, especially when he says:

29"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss[d] your servant in peace. 30For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31which you have prepared in the sight of all people, 32a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." - There is a sense of completeness, as though seeing Jesus has made his life complete and there is nothing else in the world (or in his future) that will compare to that very moment. Maybe he was an old man, and near death... I don't know as his age is not stated in NIV.

For a twelve year old, Jesus is very much aware of who he is, particularly when he clearly recognizes the Lord in heaven as his true Father in response to Mary when she referred to Joseph as Jesus' father.

Q1: When we learn of good news, whether it is of how God is working in our lives, or learn something interesting through our devotions or while worshipping at church, are we as excited as the shepherds - hurrying off, spread the word, glorifying and praising God for all the things that we have heard and seen?

Q2: Simeon was moved by the Holy Spirit to go into the temple courts. Have you ever been moved by the Holy Spirit?

My fun random points will be in the comments.
Let the posting begin!

Welcome!!!

hey Emmanuel!

For the next 14 days lets go on a journey into the first 14 chapters of Luke. Post your questions on the chapter or even general comments or astounding things that the Holy Spirit has revealed to you through your daily readings. You can use the “comments” to answer questions to a particular post.

So yeah, please feel free to add your questions, comments on the passage, prayer requests, discussions, your needs, replies to others and more.

And if you're in need of reasons why you should participate:
1) We can support one another daily on spiritual growth by reading the same Bible passage
2) Daily contact can open more opportunities/communication of all sorts
3) Hear and share the views of other fellowship members
4) Prayer requests and needs can be shared and prayed for on a more timely basis
5) Hopefully we can achieve more authenticity and find people we can be accountable to!

Blessings and love,
